Must-know policies for ‘drifters’

本文作者: 21ST
UK

Post-study Work (PSW) Visa gives international graduates two years to land a job.

A deposit of £2,800 must be made at least three months before applying for the PSW visa.

Three years’ working in the UK qualifies you to apply for permanent residence which enables you to enter and exit the UK without restriction.

US

International graduates can apply for an Optional Practical Training (OPT) card which allows a one-year stay to look for a job. But those jobless (with no internship, part-time job or full-time job) for up to 90 days have to leave.

Those landing a full-time job by the end of OPT year get an H1B non-immigrant visa (work visa) which grants a maximum six years’ stay in the country.

Five years’ working under the H1B visa gives applicants a decent chance of being granted permanent residence.

Australia

A provisional visa allows international graduates to stay for 18 months.

Australia uses a points system for applicants to qualify for permanent residence. Those possessing much-needed skills can get extra points.

To apply for citizenship, you need to spend at least three years in Australia within the four years before you apply.

Japan

A transitional visa grants foreign graduates a maximum of one year to find a job.

You can apply for permanent residence after working there for 5 years.
