In many people’s eyes, cars booked through car-*hailing apps are convenient and offer better services than ordinary taxis. However, car-booking apps have been operating in a regulatory grey zone, or altogether illegally. But things started to change on Oct 8, when transportation authorities in Shanghai issued China’s first license to Didi Kuaidi, the nation’s largest Internet car-booking service provider.
