Nanning, capital city of Guangxi, is testing an electronic ID card system based on Tencent’s WeChat mobile messaging service, reported China Daily on Nov 11. Users need to send a photo of their ID card with a selfie for authentication, and in return they receive a QR code, which acts as their electronic ID. From next month, the card will be accepted for household registration applications. Nanning is China’s first city to use the scheme.
