Fresh water

There are no natural lakes or rivers in Hong Kong. The fresh water there mainly comes from the Dongjiang River (东江) in Guangdong. The mainland started to send Dongjiang River water to Hong Kong in 1965. Today, about 70-80 percent of fresh water in Hong Kong comes from the river.
