“I finally received a Chinese passport! Fight!” 14-year-old Guo Meilin said on Sina Weibo. She showed three photos of herself receiving a Chinese passport, ID card and hukou on March 14. The Ukrainian artistic gymnast (体操运动员) has now been naturalized as a Chinese citizen, China’s first naturalized gymnast. Guo has a Chinese father from Henan province and a Ukrainian mother. Despite being raised in Ukraine, Guo loves traditional Chinese culture due to the influence of her father, Chengdu-based Red Star News reported. Nearly 1.7 meters tall, Guo is a talented gymnast and earned the national title at a junior gymnastic contest in Ukraine, according to CGTN. Guo has been training in Xi’an for months and will represent China on an international stage when she reaches the age of 16.
