When speaking of France, it doesn’t seem particularly unfamiliar to many Chinese. References to France that are well-known in China include Napoleon, Hugo, red wine, perfume, and soccer. Likewise, many French people are familiar with Confucius, China’s high-speed rail and 5G technology, and enjoy Chinese food and martial arts. As pivotal representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations, both China and France boast rich and splendid cultures that mutually attract and appreciate each other. Historical cultural and educational exchanges, such as the Sinology Fever in 18th century France and the work-study movement in early 20th century France, have greatly enhanced mutual understanding and people-to-people dialogue.
