‘Wiki’ wins placein dictionary

  “Wiki” 被收入新版牛津网上英语词典


  THE word “wiki” born on the Pacific Island of Hawaii finally got an entry into the latest edition of the online Oxford English Dictionary (OED) along with 287 other new words, Reuters has reported. “We tracked it (Wiki) for several years, researched its origins and finally decided it was time to include it in the dictionary,” OED chief editor John Simpson said. “Wiki Wiki”, meaning “quick” in Hawaiian, has a very different meaning in its new host language: a type of web page designed so that its contents can be edited by anyone who accesses it.

  
South Korea getsan English zone

  韩国将建立首个英语自由城市


  THE city of Incheon, South Korea, has announced that it will become a “Free English Zone” by 2020. Incheon officials stressed the importance of having a place where English is used freely for a city hoping to host the 2014 Asian Games. The city, where English would be the only language for communication, would provide English language teaching facilities from primary schools to college as well as training centres.
