ONE of the Middle East's biggest pop stars has fans singing at the top of their lungs – and critics screaming racism. Haifa Wehbe, a 35-year-old singer from Lebanon, has come under fire for a line in her new single that some say is racist. Egyptian Nubians, descendents of one of Africa's most ancient group of people, have filed a lawsuit to ban the song, arguing that a reference to “nubian monkeys” is fueling discrimination.

In Where Is Daddy?, a child sings to Wehbe, “Where is my teddy bear and the Nubian monkey?” The pop star claims the songwriter told her “nubian monkeys” refers to the name of a children's game.
