UNTIL recently, Americans who feared that the end of the world was near were looked at as kooks. Their views were often based on Bible verses, or on sci-fi conspiracy theories. However, now, after two wars, the threat of terrorism, and an economic recession, many are convinced that something could indeed go very wrong in the future. Movies like 2012, The Road and The Book of Eli have only strengthened that fear. |  |
