解析
1. B. 根据I would always roll my eyes, ignore (忽略) them and continue to stress over the past and future tense and any numbers over twenty可知作者最初对于别人关于语言学习的建议持排斥态度。
2. B. 根据but eventually it started to make sense. Slowly, very slowly, I started to get an immense (巨大的) sense of pride from using words and phrases I had learnt, overhearing (偷听) conversations and (almost) understanding everything that was said可知作者在学习希腊语的过程中逐渐取得了一些进步,树立了信心。
1. B. 根据The technique was developed to prevent women from passing on faulty (有缺陷的) DNA in their mitochondria (线粒体) - the part of the body’s cells that provide energy可知B项正确。 根据Mitochondria are always inherited (继承) from the mother and have no influence over our look or personality可知C项错误。根据As the technique had not been approved in the US, the treatment was carried out in Mexico by an American team led by John Zhang of the New Hope Fertility Center in New York可知D项错误。
2. C. 根据The technique can transfer healthy nuclear (内核) DNA from a fertilized (受精的) egg to a donor egg, separating it from the mother’s disease-causing mitochondrial DNA可知C项正确。
3. C. 根据the technology is not straightforward and success will depend upon many factors可知three-person baby fertility method疗法还有很大的提升空间,但是Simon Fishel还是对它充满信心,认为这是一大进步,例如,it is indeed a step in the right direction following in-depth debate and consideration of all issues from the medical science to the ethics。
Text 1
W: Excuse me. I’d like to find out about trains to Washington.
M: Well. Let me see. One just left about five minutes ago, and there’s another one at ten thirty. You still have half an hour to go.
W: Thank you very much.
M: You are welcome.
Text2
W: Well, sir. What can I do for you?
M: I’d like to swap this for change.
W: Would you like 5s or 10s?
Text3
W: Stop for a minute, I want to look at this display in the window.
M: I see some books are on sale. Let’s go inside and see if we can find something on art.
W: Okay, sounds good.
Text4
W: Susan has been very sad recently.
M: What’s the matter with her?
W: She is all right, but her grandma has just passed away. Susan stayed with her for a few years after her parents split up.
Text5
M: Have you ever skied before? I’m going with some friends tonight, and you’re welcome to come if you want.
W: Sure, I guess. But the last time I went skiing, I broke my leg. So, maybe I’ll just watch.
Text6.
M: I was thinking of starting my own business. I know you wanted me to take over your restaurant, but I can’t stand working in the food industry.
W: OK. But what do you really want to do?
M: I want to sell skateboards, clothing, and shoes.
W: You want to run a clothing shop?
M: No. It’s actually a skateboarding shop.
W: What would make your shop different from all the others?
M: I thought we could make our own T-shirts. Maybe you and dad could lend me some money first.
W: Sounds OK to me, but you’ll have to talk to your dad about this, too.
Text7
W: Do you know where Larry is? He was supposed to pick me up 20 minutes ago for a movie.
M: No. I don’t know. Didn’t he say he was working late?
W: No, he never told me that. The last time we talked was yesterday when he told me he’d pick me up at 7:30 pm sharp.
M: That’s strange. Did you try calling him?
W: Yes, but he didn’t answer. I’m worried.
M: I’m sure everything is fine. Try calling him again in a minute.
W: The movie starts at 8:00! It’s not like him to be late.
M: I’m sure he’ll be here soon.
W: Oh, he’s calling me!
M: See? I told you everything would be fine.
Text8
W: Ron, what are you doing?
M: Ah, nothing. I’m just looking up some information on the internet.
W: Like what? Let me see.
M: No, no…
W: Hair loss? What are you looking that up for? I mean, you’re not that bad off. You look great! Honestly, it’s not that bad.
M: Hey, I get enough of it from friends and the people at work, and now from you! That’s some way to treat your family!
W: Well, maybe you could wear a piece of false hair. I think you’d look great.
M: No way!
W: Well, what about accepting the fact that you’re just losing your hair?
M: I can’t just give up hope. I know appearances shouldn’t matter, but I don’t feel that way. I get the feeling that women just avoid me.
W: Come on. You can’t be serious.
Text 9
M: I lost my dog! Can you help me look for him?
W: Yes, of course. When was the last time you saw him?
M: I tied him up right here as I went to grab some coffee. When I came back outside, he was gone.
W: Okay, what does he look like?
M: He’s white with black spots. He’s around 40 pounds and has short hair. His name is Milo, and he always comes when he’s called.
W: I’ll take the streets going to the right, and you take the streets going to the left. Meet me back in front of the coffee shop in 10 minutes. If you don’t find him, we can take my car to look farther out.
M: Do you think I should call the police?
W: I doubt they’ll have time to help, but I don’t think we’ll need them. Look over there in that park two blocks down!
M: It must be Milo! Quick, let’s run over there!
W: Let’s go!
