2. 3. C. 前文提到的Being in the safe environment of a hostel with like-minded travelers also gives a great opportunity to meet new people from all over the world与后文的loneliness是正反相对的关系,因此combat表示“对抗”的含义。

D4

1. C。由第一段的“Those statements made my blood boil, but also prompted (促使) me to decide to stay in Florida and begin my career here.”

2. B。由第三段的“I started assuming more and more tasks and discovering things I liked and excelled in. I continued to ask for more responsibilities, and before I knew it, I was leading meetings, directing support staff and flourishing (蓬勃发展) in my position.”以及第四段的“In the end, all of my hard work and dedication (敬业) paid off.”可推知B为正确答案。

3. D。从作者的成功经历以及最后一段的“I have overcome many stereotypes (刻板印象) of my generation with my hard work ethic (职业道德) and positive attitude.”可以推知,作者通过自身经历想要告诉读者,积极的工作态度,努力拼搏终会有所回报,即使在小城市也一样可以取得成功,所以D为正确答案。

听力原文

Many great women have changed the world, and the way the world sees women. This month, the BBC made a list of the women who have had the biggest influence on female lives over the past 70 years. Margaret Thatcher, former leader of the United Kingdom, topped the list.

Thatcher was the first female prime minister of the UK (1979-90). Thatcher did many things she thought were good for Britain. She sold off many state industries, such as British Telecom, British Gas and British Airways, to make markets more free. Her strong will led to her nickname, the Iron Lady.

Not everyone liked the Iron Lady. Many said that she was a heartless leader who kicked the weak out onto the streets and let the rich become too rich. However, whether people love or hate her, Thatcher’s influence on Britain was great, according to the BBC.

There are seven women on the list, including US singer Beyonce. She enjoys her status as a global beauty and music icon (偶像). But to people’s surprise, the BBC chose to honor a fictional character - Bridget Jones, from the novel Bridget Jones’s Diary (BJ单身日记》).

Bridget Jones is a lonely and worried single woman. She has an ordinary job and some bad habits, like overeating. But she is also funny and kind. The character “gave permission for our own imperfections ... We still have huge image issues in this country,” explained Emma Barnett, the leading judge behind the list.

The list includes women of different experiences and ages, according to Barnett. “We hope the list inspires, educates and shines a light on the work of some women who history may already be starting to forget,” she said.
