Task 1

When we get home after a long day’s work, there will be a happy face at the door waiting for us. Our lives will be full of balls to throw, love and loyalty that will warm our hearts.

For thousands of years, dogs have been our best friends. They remain one of the greatest gifts life has ever given us. Even if they can’t love us for the rest of our lives, they will always love us for all of theirs.

Task 2

1. What’s your favorite animal? Why?

My favorite animal is the whale. I think that whales are majestic and mysterious creatures. They move effortlessly through the ocean, swimming far and wide. The blue whale is the biggest animal in the world today. They are like guardians of the ocean.

2. Do you have a pet? What is it?

I have a pet dog. Her name is Lossie. She is big and black and very furry. She will be 4 this year. I love her so much!

3. What are the pros and cons of keeping a pet?

There are many pros to having a pet. First and foremost, they give you so much warmth and joy. You can play with them and when you’re feeling down they will keep you company and even comfort you. But having pets also means more work and responsibility. You need to spend time and money caring for them and can’t leave them alone for too long. So having a pet might make you feel less free.

4. What can we do to help stray animals?

Unfortunately, there are many stray animals in the world. One way to help is that if you choose to have a pet, you can adopt a stray animal. Many animal shelters take in stray animals to help them find homes. My pet dog is from an animal shelter. Also, if any stray animals are living in your neighborhood and they look hungry or sick, you could give them some food, or take them to the vet. But make sure to check whether they are friendly or not first because you don’t want to get scratched or bitten by them.

Task 3

Li Hua was on his way home after school. Suddenly, he heard a sound from beside a building. “Woof, woof, woof!” It was a dog! Li Hua saw that it had a cut on its leg. It looked sad and in pain. Li Hua approached the dog. It was wagging its tail. It seemed friendly towards Li Hua - it didn’t run away or bite him. So, Li Hua decided to take it to the vet to get its cut fixed. After fixing the cut, the vet said the dog must be a stray, it has no home. He suggested to Li Hua that his family could look after it. When Li Hua got home, he told his parents about the dog. His family had been planning to get a dog soon anyway. It was perfect. They decided to adopt the dog. Now, every day when Li Hua comes home from school, he is greeted by his new best friend, his dog “Scruffy”.
