2021-22学年高三版第37期总第774III版听力原文

Text 1

W: Hey, Jim, I didn’t know you cycle to work.

M: Yeah, it helps me to keep fit. You know my company is near a park, so it’s a really nice ride.

W: That sounds great. I wish I could do it, but I have to take the train because I work in the city.

Text 2

W: Tom, we missed you at the party last night. Are you okay?

M: I’m feeling a little homesick. The holiday is coming, but I won’t be able to go home because I don’t have the money for the airfare.

Text 3

W: Could you tell me a little about the organization? How big is your workforce?

M: Well, we have 150 employees based in Hong Kong with another 400 in our head office in Beijing. The news desk in Hong Kong has around 80 staff.

Text 4

M: I’m hungry. Let’s go grab a bite to eat.

W: Yeah, me too. Oh, can we stop at the shop quickly? I lost my makeup bag at the airport and I want to pick up a few things.

M: OK.

Text 5

M: It’s not going to rain that much this summer.

W: Yeah, some places are very short of water.

M: I recently travelled to the west of here. When I looked out of the windows of the train, all the land that I could see was as dry as a bone.

Text 6

W: We have been over this a hundred times! We are not getting a pet!

M: Why not? Come on! Just a little puppy!

W: Who is going to look after a dog?

M: I will! I’ll feed it and walk it every day. We can get a Labrador.

W: Our apartment is too small for that breed of dog.

M: OK. How about getting a kitty?

W: We’re planning on having children soon. I don’t think cats are a good idea with a baby in the house. Well, I can get you a parrot and we’ll take it from there.

M: Yay!

Text 7

W: Grandpa, this seat is for you. It’s your birthday today.

M: Oh, Daisy, good child, come here. Sit next to me.

W: I’m afraid I can’t. According to the book about table manners, it’s Dad’s seat.

M: Oh, you read? Very good. I think we should do something different today. I’ll give you some privilege.

W: Great, that’s my favorite seat. The nearest to the birthday cake.

M: Now I see what you read that book for. But it’s fine, I’ll give you the lion’s share.

W: Why do they serve up noodles first? And there is an egg on them. I don’t like noodles.

M: They are not just normal noodles. They’re “long-lived” noodles. It’s an old Chinese tradition to eat long-lived noodles on your birthday.

W: I see. Then let me try them.

Text 8

M: Hi, I’m Lucas. I just moved in.

W: Oh, Hi Lucas, come on in. I’m Barbara. Nice to meet you.

M: Nice to meet you too.

W: Would you like something to drink? I’ve got tea and some grape juice.

M: Thanks, some tea would be nice. I really like your tea set and the tablecloth as well. Where did you get them?

W: Oh, there is a supermarket not far from here. But there is also a tea house around the corner, where I bought the tea set.

M: OK, I might go there and have a look sometime. It’s a nice community here.

W: You are right about that. It’s quiet and very convenient. There’s a grocery store, a gym and lots of restaurants along the street.

M: There is a gym nearby? That’s exciting! I really want to start going to the gym as soon as possible.

W: Well, if you want, we can go together sometime. Actually, I am going this afternoon. If you like you can join me and I can also show you around along the way.

M: That would be wonderful. Thanks.

Text 9

M: Good afternoon, Chloe. What seems to be the problem?

W: Hi, Dr Evans. When I woke up this morning, I had a really sore throat and a really bad cough. The flu is terrible.

M: Oh, I see. Your throat is a little swollen and red. Have you taken your temperature?

W: Yes, 37.

M: It’s lucky you don’t have a fever. How are your ears, blocked?

W: Not exactly, but my nose is blocked up.

M: OK Chloe, I’m going to set you up with a bunch of pills. You will need to take these orange pills twice a day and these blue ones every evening. You also have to take this cough medicine three times a day after meal.

W: Whoa! I hate swallowing pills. Am I able to go to work?

M: Absolutely not! You don’t want to infect your co-workers, do you? I recommend staying in bed for at least three days.

W: OK. Would you mind writing me a doctor’s note for work? Otherwise, they may think I am faking it.

M: Ha-ha. Sure, not a problem! Here you are. Feel better soon and take care.

W: Thanks doc, bye.

Text 10

M: Hello, everyone. Today I’m going to talk about a famous festival in the UK Bonfire Night. Bonfire Night is annually celebrated on November 5 in honor of a special event in Britain history.

In 1605, some English Catholics were angry because King James I was treating them badly. In November that year, a group of men planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. They decided to destroy it on November 5, which was the day when the King was due to open the parliament. They put 36 buckets of gunpowder in the Houses of parliament and waited for the King to arrive. However, they didn’t succeed. The police found the gunpowder before it exploded and caught all the men involved in the plot. The men were put to death. To celebrate his survival, King James I ordered the people of England to have a bonfire on the night of November 5.

Now, every November 5, almost everywhere in Britain has firework displays and bonfires. Although children like toffee apples best, the traditional Bonfire Night food is hot baked potatoes, and now eating toasted marshmallows is also popular on this special day.
