M: OK.
W: What is the monthly fee? And is there an initiation fee?
M: The initiation fee is $20. The monthly fee for access to one location is $10. But you have to pay for all the 12 months at a time.

M: Great! Please fill out these forms.

M: Some of the teachers make us take a test every week!
W: Wow, that’s terrible! It reminds me that I have an assignment to finish. Bye!

W: Wow, this apartment looks really clean!
M: Thank you. I always clean it before a new renter moves in, and we just had it painted recently. Let me show you around.
W: That would be great. Thank you.
M: As the listing stated, it’s one bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. The bedroom is fully furnished with a bed, a wardrobe and two bedside tables. There is also a desk for study, a bookshelf, a LCD TV and WiFi.
W: It looks really cozy and stylish!
M: Let me show you the kitchen. It’s fully equipped with a stovetop, an oven, a microwave and a refrigerator. The oven and stovetop use gas while the heat runs on electricity.

M: You’ll need to pay the gas bill, but the heat is included in the rent.

Text 10
W: Hello, everyone, welcome to Lingua Marina. In this talk, I’ll share with you a 20-minute daily learning routine. First of all, let’s focus on listening, which is essential for English. So spend 5 minutes listening to anything you want, like a YouTube video or an audiobook. The next 5 minutes of your 20-minute practice should be devoted to speaking. Read out loud. I want to recommend a website called speakandimprove.com. It is a research project by the University of Cambridge. A robot will ask you questions and you can answer them on different topics. Alright, we have 10 minutes left, and 7 minutes will be spent on vocabulary. During your speaking, you’ve probably come across at least 3 to 5 new words. Write them down, google them and create sentences with them and say them out loud. Finally, I want you to spend 3 minutes reflecting on your goals. Remember that English is your instrument, and it will help you achieve your objectives.
2022-23学年第38期总第907期高一III版《口语直通车》参考答案
Task 2
1. Can you describe a challenge you faced and how you overcame it?
The first time I went Skiing I was terrified. Although I had some experience ice skating, skiing seemed to require a whole different set of skills. On my first run, I directly skied into the side of the hill, which made me want to give up. It was only after the support of my friends that I decided not to give up entirely. However, on my second attempt everything changed. I found my confidence and everything fell into place. It was deciding to never give up which allowed me to achieve success.
2. How did you feel when you successfully overcame challenges in your life?
Overcoming challenges in life is a great feeling. Being able to see how my efforts and dedication result in success makes every moment of hard work worth it. Additionally, overcoming challenges is addictive; after each victory, it’s hard not to want another challenge. Overcoming challenges can come to drive you and inspire you to try your best in everything you do.
3. Why is it hard to challenge yourself?
Sometimes it is hard to overcome challenges because people usually like to stay in their comfort zones. We naturally tend to stick to the trends and patterns of life that we are used to. This usually requires not having to expend any additional amounts of effort. However, it’s only when we challenge this mindset that we experience success in life.
4. What are the right attitudes toward life challenges?
The right attitude toward challenges is to accept each one that comes your way. After each victory, you will be more prepared for the next. Never allow fear of making mistakes to get in the way of new challenges; every failure is just a lesson in disguise. In life, whether you like it or not, you will encounter problems that need to be overcome. If they are an inevitability, it makes sense to get ready and embrace the challenge.
Task 3
It was the first time that Li Hua had gone rock climbing. At first, she struggled with the high wall, finding it hard to get a grip on the rocks. After several attempts, she felt defeated. While taking a break, her friend encouraged her that everyone struggles at the beginning and that if she keeps trying she will eventually get the hang of it. This made her want to try again. Returning to the wall, she remembered what her friend had said and focused all her attention on the task in hand. In no time she was scaling the wall with ease. With her friend applauding from the ground below, she finally reached the top of the wall and was glad that she chose to never give up.
