M: Goodbye.

W: Where did you put it?
M: I took it out of my taxi and left it on the sidewalk. Then I paid the driver. But when I turned around I found my suitcase had disappeared.
W: Oh that’s unfortunate.
M: There was another suitcase of the same color on the sidewalk. I think someone must have got mine. What do you think I should do?
W: Well, I think the best thing to do is to go to the information desk. With any luck the other person will find out that he’s taken the wrong case and will get in touch with Railway Information too.

M: Good news. Hardacre College was officially opened last week.
The college campus is built around a main square. This is at the heart of the college with walkways leading to all the departments, the teaching buildings, the library, the lecture hall, the dormitory buildings, the dining hall and the sports hall.
What about the work of the college? You can look forward to the latest design in laboratories and lecture rooms, all equipped with interactive video teaching boards. This means that you can be in one room watching and listening, and your lecturer can be teaching somewhere else at the college.
There are also excellent facilities for disabled students. And there is access for wheelchairs throughout the college at ground floor level, with special lifts to all floors at higher levels.
So whether you want to start studying at the college or not, why don’t you go out to Hardacre and see everything it has to offer?

第四部分
第一节
Dear Kevin,
I am so grateful to have a dedicated teacher like you. With your careful guidance last year, I made rapid progress in English. The relaxing atmosphere in your class encouraged me to freely voice my opinions, which has greatly enhanced my fluency in speaking.
For further improvement, I hope there will be more interactions with you in class. Discussions in pairs or groups do help us, but your timely feedback can allow us to recognize our mistakes and improve our learning efficiency. Moreover, it is thoughtful of you to speak slowly for our sake, but the faster speed at which you talk with other native speakers may better sharpen our listening skills.
I sincerely hope these suggestions will be useful to you. Looking forward to your wonderful lessons next semester.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
Just as Susan was coming in close, a small child fell into the deep end of the pool. Almost as if by instinct, Elisha turned her attention to the child crying for help in the water. True to her fish-like speed, in one swift motion Elisha scooped the child up and out of the water. Turning to face her lane, Elisha sped back through the water to her starting position and then made her way toward the finish line.
Elisha, out of breath, pulled herself up out of the pool. Her father and her teammates came running over to help her to her feet and – to her amazement – heard a loud cheer erupt from the crowd. When Elisha heard the news that her team finished last in the final event, she nearly broke down into tears. But her dad gave her a big hug and told her that it’s all right – she will always be a winner in his heart, no matter what.
