Text 10

W: Hello, everyone. I’d like to introduce the BBC today. The British Broadcasting Company was established in 1922. Four years later, it changed its name to the British Broadcasting Corporation, better known as the BBC, and that is how it has remained ever since. From the beginning the BBC was a public service radio, but also an independent operator. Except during the war years, it has never been controlled by the government. In the early days of BBC radio, there was not a lot of news on the radio. There were music, drama, discussions and children’s programs; but news was not broadcast until after 7 pm, to avoid competition with the newspapers!

Today it has several national television channels, lots of radio channels and a growing number of international services. It also has a very popular internet site, with news stories from Britain and around the world. In tomorrow’s world, communications and the media will become more and more important. With almost 100 years of experience, the BBC is determined to remain one of the world’s major players in media.

第二节(One possible version

Mr Brown was silent for a minute before saying in a kind voice, “You think that it is the right thing to cover up for your brother?” Jack went pale. “I … I … you know the truth?” he mumbled. Mr Brown smiled, “Yes, Jerry told me himself just half an hour ago.” The elderly man explained that Jerry had met him at the cafe and told him everything, how he had ridden his brother’s motorcycle without permission and lost control of it, resulting in the minor accident that dented Mr Brown’s new car.

Jack now looked curiously at the elderly man, “Will my brother be arrested?” “Ah, I see, you are trying to protect your brother. No, I will not be reporting the accident. It’s just a small dent.” Seeing Jack’s relieved expression, he went on, “However, I hope that your brother will learn from this. As for you, remember that it is unwise to hide the truth.” Jack thanked Mr Brown for his kindness and then went home happily. His brother’s courage in confessing everything made him happy and proud. He knew he could sleep well tonight.
