11-15 ACBCA 16-20 CABBA

Text 1

M: What are you doing on your phone?

W: I’m searching for the shoes I like. They are on sale in the online flagship shop. And I’m too lazy to go to a physical store.

Text 2

M: Hi, Mrs Carla. I need to ask for sick leave today. I caught a cold and woke up with a terrible headache this morning.

W: Sure. Fill out the leave request form online, and I’ll approve it later. Take care of yourself.

Text 3

W: Peter, are you OK?

M: Not really. I can’t stop coughing. The air quality is terrible today.

W: The weather reports said today’s Air Quality Index is 300. The PM 2.5 level is quite high.

M: No wonder I feel so bad.

Text 4

M: Hi! Can I speak with Mr Chang?

W: He’s out of the office until next Tuesday.

M: Okay. Please let him know the meeting has been rescheduled to next Friday, not Thursday.

W: Sure thing.

Text 5

M: I’m taking this with me. Please separate the steak and salad into separate boxes. Can I have a plastic bag for them?

W: We provide paper bags for free.

M: Alright. A paper bag would be great.

Text 6

W: How much does this pair of earrings cost?

M: $30.

W: Hmm. That’s a little expensive.

M: They’re made of solid silver. These stainless-steel ones are good, too.

W: Is there a discount if I buy two pairs?

M: I can give you a discount. So, the total price would be $45.

W: How about $40 for the two pairs?

M: You are a hard bargainer. All right, you can take them. Come again if you like our items.

Text 7

M: Hello, Sally. You’re late. What happened?

W: I’m so sorry. The traffic was so awful.

M: I was pleasantly surprised when you called me yesterday to say that you wanted to come to the gym with me. I think that’s fantastic.

W: I feel a bit out of shape lately, so I want to lose weight. I know you are an expert in this. Can you give me some advice?

M: Well, cutting down on sweets can help with weight loss. And you should also try to avoid eating junk food. Eat more fruits and vegetables instead.

W: Well, how about packaged juice?

M: Better not have any. It has lots of sugar.

Text 8

W: Hi Thomas, how are you enjoying the course so far?

M: Well, I think it’s good.

W: Why did you decide to study sports science? Didn’t you want to be a professional athlete when you were at school?

M: Yeah, that was my goal, and all my classmates thought I would achieve it. They thought I was great.

W: So what happened? Did your parents want you to be more academic?

M: Not at all. Perhaps they should have pushed me harder, though. I think I should have practiced more.

W: What makes you say that?

M: Well, I went to Kenya for a couple of weeks. I was chosen to run with some of the top teenage athletes in the world. I thought it was a great opportunity and felt excited at first, but once we started competing, I quickly realized I wasn’t good enough. All I felt was disappointment in myself when I lost. So I just quit.

W: That must have been a huge shock. I hope you can regain your confidence in the academic area.

Text 9

W: Hey, James. Walking your dog again, right?

M: Yes! My dog and I like to hang out in this park. It has a big area of grass and a beautiful pond.

W: I can’t agree more. What breed is your dog? He is so handsome.

M: He is a Samoyed. He is 3 years old and weighs about 35 pounds.

W: Wow, his coat is impressive! Such a big, beautiful boy. What’s his name?

M: Zac. He is a lovely dog and a highly energetic breed. He needs a lot of exercise, so I have to walk him twice a day.

W: He is so big. Is he dangerous?

M: Not at all. In fact, he is cute, but he can be headstrong sometimes.

W: That’s nice. I’ve always wanted to raise a Chihuahua. They are said to be small and smart.

M: But I heard that they can be dangerous so they may not be the best choice for families with small kids.

W: Really? I didn’t know Chihuahuas could cause such problems. Maybe I should try a Golden retriever.

M: Yeah, that might be better. Feel free to ask me if you need any help.

Text 10

M: Good morning. Welcome to the Orientation for New Students. The topic today will be off-campus housing. This is of interest to those who don’t want to live in student housing and are not familiar with our city. First, let’s talk about where to look for an apartment. There are some places that I don’t recommend. You might think the neighborhood of the university would be a nice place. However, it’s probably not a good idea because that is one of the most expensive areas of the city to live in. The downtown area is a popular place to visit; however, that’s not a good place to look for housing either because it’s a commercial area with very few apartments. It’s also far from the university. So, where’s a good place to live? The apartments in the uptown neighborhood are good. The prices there are quite low, and many buses go there, so it’s very easy to get to the university from there. The Greenfield Park neighborhood is popular. It’s closer to the university, but not many buses run in that direction, so you’ll need a car if you choose to live there.

第二节One possible version

Stevie looked up, greatly surprised. He thought he’d been invisible. “I’m not so sure,” he smiled weakly. But Mr Taylor came up to him, patted him on the arm firmly and, before he could refuse, said “Let’s do it.” The boys gathered around. Then Stevie and Mr Taylor checked each other’s straps – the way they had been taught. With everything ready, Mr Taylor began to make his way up. Watching carefully as the teacher climbed, Stevie could feel his heart pounding fast and his palms sweating. Finally, Mr Taylor reached the top, and the whole place burst into cheering.

“Ready to let me down?” Mr Taylor called down to Stevie. Stevie took a deep breath and reviewed what Rick had taught them about how to use the belaying device. At last, he looked up and said loudly, “OK!” Then the teacher let go of the wall and began to walk down. Stevie let the rope slip through his hands bit-by-bit cautiously and watched the teacher’s movement closely. He was so nervous that he could even hear his heart beating fast. Luckily, things went smoothly! Hearing the teacher say “You’re really trustworthy!”, Stevie smiled with relaxation and great joy.
