M: Lois, where was your first job?
W: In a shoe shop! When I was 15, I used to work every Saturday for eight hours at a shoe shop and earn 1 pound per hour.
Text 2
W: Hey, Mike. I really need a place to stay, and I heard that your place is for rent.
M: Yeah. I usually rent out my house. But for you, it’s free.
Text 3
M: I want to borrow a book for my art class. Its name is Wonderful Art World.
W: Sorry, it has been checked out.
Text 4
W: Hi. How can I help you?
M: I’d like to get a souvenir for my wife. Something special from this area.
W: Okay. Well, how about this nice pearl necklace? It’s locally sourced from the nearby sea.
Text 5
M: Morning rose, summer garden ... these are all products for women. I don’t see any for men. We like to smell fresh as well!
W: I think there is a shelf for men’s products over past the food section. If there isn’t, then you can try the drugstore.
Text 6
W: Hi, Jack, you look stressed out today. What happened?
M: Yeah, I have been trying to study for my math final. But it’s a little hard for me to go through all of the questions because I missed three classes this term.
W: Do you need any help? I could help you to go over the materials.
M: Well, I appreciate that. But I know you are tied up all day long. But maybe I could borrow your notes?
W: Of course, I will bring them to you tomorrow morning.
M: Great. I feel a lot better now about the exam. Thank you so much.
Text 7
W: Hey, Toby. I was chatting with your girlfriend. She seems really into health and fitness.
M: Yeah. She’s very fit. It’s kind of a problem actually.
W: Oh really? How so?
M: Well, she’s very particular about her diet. She avoids fast food, sugar and even coffee. Since she doesn’t eat these things, it’s kind of hard when we dine out or if I want to eat something because then I feel guilty.
W: Why not just skip those things as well?
M: No way, I love fast food and sweets.
W: I see.
M: What do you think I should do?
W: Perhaps you should also try to eat healthy.
M: Yeah, maybe. I’ll give it a try.
Text 8
W: Freedom Travel. How may I help you?
M: I’d like to make a flight reservation for the 23rd of this month.
W: Okay. What is your destination?
M: Well. I’m flying to Helsinki, Finland.

Text 9
W: I haven’t quite finished my writing assignment yet. I had trouble getting past the beginning.
M: How come?
W: Well, I was really happy to be writing a detective story. But after the first few pages, I sort of froze up mentally. I just couldn’t write any more.
M: The same thing happened to me. I thought it meant that I lacked imagination.
W: Well, Mrs Wilson said that it’s pretty common for writers to get stuck like that.
M: You went to talk to her about it?
W: Actually, I went to ask for more time to finish the assignment. But instead, she gave me some advice on how to keep from getting stalled while writing. She said that the first thing I should do is write anything that comes into my head, even if it doesn’t make any sense, as a sort of warm-up exercise.
M: That’s interesting. When I get stuck, I shift to something else, you know, do some work for one of my other courses.
W: Well, her methods seem to have worked for me. I’ve written most of the story, and I should be able to hand it in on time. But first I need to go to the jewelry store.
M: You are going shopping? Can’t you wait until you finish your story?
W: I am going there for my story. My detective solves a jewelry store robbery. So I want to take a look at how the jewelry cases are arranged, where the security cameras are located, that sort of thing.
Text 10
W: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Ellis Brown. As you know, we organize a series of events throughout the school year, focusing on various cultural subjects. I am delighted to see such a large crowd of both students and teachers here for our second “Timeout for the Arts” event this year. It appears that almost every seat is taken. Tonight we’re lucky to have a renowned music figure as our guest. He began to play the piano at the age of 5. By the time he was 10, he was already composing and playing his own pieces. As a graduate of a famous art school in New York City, our guest has spent the last 45 years of his very successful career touring the world playing concerts. We are so fortunate that he has agreed to come and share some of his experiences playing music around the world with us this evening. He has had many adventures along the way: missed travel connections, no hotel room, locked concert halls and so on. He has played for all of the most well-known conductors, not just in North America but all over the world as well. Tonight, he will be presenting on the theme of “The Concert Tour — 40 years on Four Continents”. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Mr Daniel Robertson, one of the most celebrated pianists of our time.

第四部分 写作
第一节 (One Possible Version)
Dear Mike,
I hope that you are doing well. I am really sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling down lately. I want you to know that you’re not alone.
I used to struggle with confidence as well, feeling like I failed to meet the standard of “coolness”. But then I realized being cool isn’t about fitting into a specific mold. It is about being genuine and embracing who you are.
Try not to compare yourself to others. Instead of focusing on what you perceive as your shortcomings, try to celebrate your strengths.
You’re cooler than you think, Mike! And I’m always here if you need someone to talk to.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (One Possible Version)
Unfortunately, at that moment, an old woman hurried in. “Can I get some food, please?” asked the old woman eagerly, her hungry and desperate look suggesting she hadn’t eaten in days. “I’m terribly sorry. We have no more food to offer at this time of night,” I said awkwardly, feeling upset that we were unable to help this poor old woman with all the food gone. Rather disappointed, the old woman turned and stepped out of the soup kitchen.
“Wait a minute, Granny!” the girl I had just served said as she ran out with her food. She went up to the old woman, handed her the food, and then disappeared into the darkness. The old woman, with tears in her eyes, stood there speechless, deeply moved by the girl’s act of kindness. The girl’s generous gesture deeply touched my heart as well. She gave away what she badly needed to another person in need, though it was only a small thing. It was in that moment that I realized small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
