2024-25学年第6期总第957期高一III版答案与解析
I. 1. 1) nervous; 2) his headache, sense of imbalance from poor sleep and past competition failure; 3) sneered; 4) determined; 5) pressure; 6) strategies
2. 1) The “man” in black was always beside John, appearing out of nowhere, and disappearing into thin air when John wanted to punch him. He seemed familiar with John as what he said reminded John of his failure. The word “man” in double quotation marks suggests this “man” is different from others. Moreover, John’s victory and sudden confidence in himself coincide (一致) with the disappearance of the “man”. All these aspects suggest that the “man” in black symbolizes John’s inner doubts and fears, representing his self-critical (自我批评的) thoughts and insecurities (不安) about his abilities and past failures.
2) Following the five parts of the story mountain, we can identify the theme with ease. With “John in the running competition” as the setting, the rising action clearly depicts a conflicting picture of John vs John’s self-doubt. As the story progresses, John came to realize that, with determination, one could overcome self-doubt and succeed. This is a story with a clear “growth” theme.
II. (One possible version)
Paragraph 1:
1. It might remind him to stay focused on the race.
2. He would compete with all his might.
3. Yes, he did.
Paragraph 2:
1. He might owe John’s victory to good luck.
2. John might tell the “man” he disagreed.
3. He might realize who the “man” in black was and that self-doubt could be defeated.
III. (One possible version)
Bang! John dashed out, but his foot almost slipped. His face flushed (脸红) as a sharp pain shot through his ankle, jolting (唤醒) him awake. “Why can’t I focus and win?” he thought. Instantly, he regained his balance and surged forward. With a burst of speed, John overtook one competitor after another. As the bell rang, signaling the final lap, he pushed himself to the limit, running with incredible speed. The crowd cheered as he sprinted (冲刺) past the finish line in first place. Other participants came over, celebrating his victory.
The “man” in black appeared and congratulated him, too. “Good race. You were lucky,” he said. John looked at him, replying, “It was determination rather than luck. I’ve chosen to win.” The “man” in black smiled and disappeared. It was then that John realized that the “man” was a reflection of himself, embodying all the self-doubt and negative voices that had told him he was slow, unskilled and never good enough. What a wonderful day! John grinned (咧嘴笑), aware that the day was more than a competition day; it was a day to fight against himself and win.
Question to ponder:
* How does the structure of the plot mountain help ensure that the falling action and resolution are logical and satisfying?
By organizing the contents of the background, rising action and climax, we clearly find that John, who lost the competition last time, was feeling nervous and doubting himself. This became even worse with the appearance of the “man” in black. Consequently, as the starting gun went off, he dashed out but nearly slipped. And then the “man” in black appeared and congratulated him. Based on these, the falling action and resolution must be John’s realization of getting rid of his self-doubt and focusing on running. John chose to run with all his might and as he hoped, he won the race and overcame his self-doubt.
