B.
1. The stranger is described as a short, strong man with an unsettling appearance. His clothes are expensive but far too large, making him look out of place. Despite his small build, his face shows signs of sickness, pain, violence and hatred, which creates an atmosphere of discomfort and fear. These details make the reader feel uneasy, adding tension and mystery to the story.
2. The stranger behaves impatiently and aggressively, touching Doctor Lanyon’s arm and speaking with urgency. His quick actions and cold attitude suggest desperation and a sense of danger. This behavior suggests that he is Hyde, a character known for violence and evil. His offer to let Doctor Lanyon witness something extraordinary shows his controlling nature and the power he seeks to have over others.
3. Doctor Lanyon serves as a witness to the horrifying transformation of Hyde into Doctor Jekyll. His scientific perspective is portrayed as rational (理性的) and skeptical, contrasting with Doctor Jekyll’s more experimental and risky approach to science. His scientific skepticism and eventual horror at the transformation emphasize the story’s themes of the limits of science and the duality (两重性) of human nature.

解析:
Day 1 1-4 CBBC
1. C。根据第二段“The powder is categorized as a novel food – one not traditionally eaten in the EU.”
4. C。从文中最后一段“... getting consumers to accept insect-based foods remains a challenge”可知,答案为C。
Day 2 1-4 BBCD
1. B。根据文章第一段和第二段“the Engel coefficient ... describes the relationship between income and spending on food.”
2. B。根据第4段“One of the key reasons for this concern comes from the Chinese attitude toward food ... The food culture in China is rich and diverse, and people are willing to spend more money and energy on it”可知,中国的饮食文化和消费习惯与其他国家不同,这使得恩格尔系数在中国可能不完全适用。
4. D。根据第7段“Many aspects of Chinese spiritual culture are connected to food, from governance to communication”可知,王学泰教授认为食物在中国文化中连接了精神价值和社会生活。
Day 3 1-4 BBDC
1. B。根据文章第二段“Even though she had a lot of experience and could speak five languages, Alvarez started working for TVE in Madrid in 2004 and had to wait years before becoming a correspondent.”
2. B。根据第三段“A study by the Reuters Institute… found that only 27 percent of top editors are women, even though women make up about 40 percent of journalists.”
3. D。根据第五段“Women have had to fight more than men to get where they are now. ”和第六段“ ‘Mediocre’ is certainly not a word that describes Alvarez’s work. She has won many awards, including honors at the Hamburg Film Festival and the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards.”
4. C。根据最后一段“We often better map out situations and capture human suffering with greater sensitivity.”
Day 4 1-4 BCAB
1. B。根据文章第二段“Although I could not see his face, there was something unpleasing about him and I was glad I had a weapon”和文章第三段“As a doctor I could perhaps feel sorry for him; as a man I felt only fear and dislike”可知,Lanyon医生虽然从职业角度对陌生人感到同情,但作为一个普通人,他对这个陌生人只有恐惧和厌恶。
2. C。从文章第三段“His clothes were well made and expensive, but they were far too large for him”可知,陌生人的衣服虽然做工精良且价格昂贵,但对他来说太大了,就像一个孩子穿着父亲的衣服。
4. B。从文章倒数第三段“I cannot make myself write down the things that Jekyll, with tears in his eyes, confessed to me that night”以及倒数第二段“As a scientist I cannot believe it – but I saw it happen with my own eyes”可知,Lanyon医生亲眼见证了Hyde变成Jekyll,但他作为科学家仍然难以相信这个事实。

Text 6
M: Lenny, did you go to see the basketball game last night?
W: No, I didn’t.
M: Why? Did you have a class?
W: No, I was busy with my paper. It was an exciting game, wasn’t it? Who won?
M: Our college’s basketball team. Actually, both teams were very strong, and the score was close. By the end of the match, the No 6 player made a beautiful shot, and it proved to be the winning basket.
W: That’s great!
M: Yes, everyone shouted and cheered excitedly.
Text 7
M: Good morning, Ms Smith. I know you have made your decision on the team’s players. But I’m just wondering why I wasn’t chosen.
W: Oh, Bob. I’m sorry about this. Thirty-five players wanted to join the volleyball team, but only 15 could make the list.
M: I understand. I was so stressed from schoolwork that I didn’t practice enough. I know I could have played better!
W: I’m sure of it, Bob. I know you’re a top student in high school and a talented athlete. I wish I could give you another chance to try out, but I can’t.
M: I see. What can I do now?
W: You just need some more practice. This time next year, there will be another tryout. I’ll list some training activities you can do. They will help.
Text 8
W: Could you give me a hand? I want to move things around for a change.
M: No problem. What shall we do first?
W: Let’s take the bed apart and move it out of the bedroom.
M: Will it fit through the door?
W: It should. We did it last year, remember?
M: Right. How about the lights? Maybe we should move them before anything else, so they don’t break.
W: Good thinking. Then we should move the bedside tables since they are small.
M: OK. You take one and I’ll take the other.
W: You know, I think maybe it’s time to paint these walls. They look pretty dirty.
M: Yes, the whole room could do with a fresh coat of paint. Do you think we should go to the paint store after we’re finished?
W: OK. Then we can have dinner together at the restaurant nearby.
Text 9
M: Susan, what was your first job?
W: Well, I worked in an expensive cake shop. It was my last year at school, before I went to college. I just wanted to earn extra money for myself because I came from a family of seven and my parents couldn’t afford to give us much pocket money.
M: Was the shop a nice place to work?
W: Yes, of course, because every morning I could enjoy the wonderful smell of hot bread! The first week was difficult because I just wanted to eat the cakes, which wasn’t allowed, but then I lost interest in them. We had to keep everything clean, and it was hard work.
M: Did you enjoy serving customers in the shop?
W: Yes, it was interesting when people came in to plan a party or a wedding. One of the bakers would come to discuss the design of the cake. Customers thought the prices were high, but usually ended up buying the cakes anyway. They always wanted a perfect and special wedding or party and our cakes were beautiful and unique.
Text 10
M: Thanks for calling our competition hotline. We have all the information you need to enter this exciting painting competition. The most important date for you to remember is Oct 15, which is when you have to send in your paintings. We need them all in by this date because the winning paintings will be in a show held from Nov 10 to Dec 20 at the School of Arts.
The next important information to know is the topic of the competition. Last year’s topic, Nature, was very successful. The upcoming competition will focus on a theme that challenges your imagination. That is “The Future”. Think about the world around you. How might it look one hundred years from now?
We apologize for any inconvenience caused, but we won’t be able to return your paintings. However, you will be given a certificate as an acknowledgement of your participation. It’ll look great on your bedroom wall!
We welcome works from school groups, so make sure you tell your teacher about the competition. Schools can win a special course with Barry Wells. He’s an artist from Australia, who’s produced pictures for many children’s storybooks in England.

(One possible version)
Dear Chris,
I’m honored to serve as your guide to the Forbidden City.
The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, was the home of emperors and their wives during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its spectacular buildings and well-preserved artwork make it a must-see landmark for any visitor to Beijing. It offers a glimpse into the life of the royal family.
We will meet in your hotel lobby at 9 am and go there by subway. It will take 15 minutes or so, maybe a little longer if we have to line up at the security checkpoints.
I look forward to seeing you then!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(One possible version)
“Mary, she’s... she’s gone,” Allen said sadly. “Don’t worry, honey,” his mother said gently, “We will find Mary together. She could not have gone far. She’s a smart bird and she loves you. She will definitely come back to us if we bring some food and call her name.” Allen’s mother then kissed him gently on the forehead and helped him back up from the floor. Hand-in-hand, they slowly made their way back down the stairs and to the front door.
Allen and his mother went outside to look for the bird. Food in hand, they called out Mary’s name, even imitating bird sounds as they walked down the street. They made their way down one block, then another, and then another – before finally they found themselves at the entrance of the park Allen had gone to not too long ago. And then, there she was – sitting atop of the bench Allen always liked to sit on when he felt sad and wanted to be alone. His mother was right after all: Mary always found her way back to Allen’s heart.
