Text 1
M: I haven’t seen you driving your car recently. What happened?
W: Janis and I started cycling to work to save money on gas.
Text 2
W: I’m afraid I can’t come to the party tomorrow night. I have to work on a school report.
M: Well, why don’t you at least try to stop by for a little while?
W: OK, then.
Text 3
M: Who on earth is ringing the bell?
W: Oh, it must be Michael. Didn’t you invite him over for dinner? Would you answer the door, Matt?
M: OK, Mom. I’m coming.
Text 4
M: I’m really tired, but I don’t want to miss this football match on TV.
W: If I were you, I wouldn’t do that. You’d better go to bed now since you have to catch the early train tomorrow morning.
M: OK. You are right.
Text 5
M: I went to the shopping center yesterday and saw lots of nice shirts and jackets.
W: But you’ve already got lots of shirts.
M: Yes, and the jacket I liked was expensive. I ended up buying a rather stylish new sweater.
Text 6
W: What’s the matter, dear?
M: I want a cup of coffee, but this machine is out of order, and I lost my money.
W: Let’s go to the restaurant at the Student Center.
M: Better not. The last time I was there it was so crowded that I had to wait in line for almost an hour.
W: Really? Let’s go somewhere else then. It can’t take too long because I have a test at three o’clock.
M: Okay. Let’s go to the library. There’s another machine downstairs by the telephones.
Text 7
M: Waitress, this menu is in Chinese. Could you please give me the English menu?
W: Actually, it’s in English and French, too, just in smaller print. Look here.
M: Thanks. OK, I’d like to order fried fish with tomato sauce and roast lamb.
W: Just those two?
M: Oh, wait a moment. I also need the vegetable salad for my wife. She likes it. Some French fries and a yogurt for my daughter.
W: Anything else?
M: And French onion soup. It is my father’s favorite. That’s enough.
W: OK, I’ve got them down. We’ll serve the dishes as soon as possible.
M: Oh, my family hasn’t arrived yet, so could you please serve the food in half an hour?
W: I see. No problem, sir.
Text 8
W: Egypt is an interesting country to visit, and it’s well worth traveling there.
M: But we can’t decide yet. You know, a round-trip ticket to Egypt is expensive.
W: I think you could spend less than half the money if you go by ship.
M: But don’t you think it would take a long time?
W: You can enjoy the beauty of the sea and the rising sun. You’ll have a great time, I’m sure.
M: Don’t be so sure. We probably won’t go anywhere. My wife always worries too much.
W: About what?
M: Well … Who’s going to look after the garden and the pets? We have these problems every year. In the end, we stay home and take care of everything ourselves.
Text 9
M: You look unhappy. What’s the matter?
W: I lent my dictionary to Sam yesterday. But he told me this morning that he had left it on the bus.
M: When will he learn to be more careful? He told me just now that his notebook was missing, too. I lent him my pen last week, and he couldn’t find that either.
W: Did he buy you a new one?
M: Yes, but it’s different. That pen was a gift from my grandpa. It could never be replaced.
W: I’m so sorry to hear that. I just bought the dictionary last week. Now I have to buy a new one.
M: Will you go downtown to buy one this afternoon?
W: No, I’ll be playing table tennis with my aunt. I’ll go downtown tomorrow.
M: Could you ask your dad to give me a lift when you go there?
W: I’ll take the subway. My dad will be away for a few days. He is driving to a conference in a neighboring city.
M: OK, then. I’ll take the bus. Thanks anyway.
Text 10
M: That was the most interesting summer I’d ever had. I decided to take a French course in France for two whole months. It was my first time out of America and my first time to fly across an ocean, so I was nervous at first. Everything about the culture was amazing to me. I had only read about the history of France two weeks before going there, but not much about the people or their lifestyle. The food was fresh, the wine was very tasty and the people were so relaxed, like they had no worries in the world. Since I couldn’t communicate with anyone, I felt a bit sad. Once I got over that, I decided to focus on my studies. As I learned the language, I understood more why French people were the way they were. I will never forget this experience. It was an opportunity to learn more about and from others. I am confident that studying in France made a positive impact on my life, and I will never regret that decision.

Day 1 1-4 ABBD
2. B。文章第三段提到“The rice shortage in Japan began when extreme heat in the summer of 2023 damaged the crops. ”,日本大米短缺的最初原因是2023年夏季的极端高温导致农作物受损。故答案为B。
3. B。文章倒数第二段指出“this means the more they grow, the less they earn”,尽管日本的“减反政策”在2018年正式结束,但大米产量的减少仍在继续。
Day 2 1-4 DBCD
1. D。从文中第一段“there’s a scene where Barbie looks shocked and strange when she steps out of her high heels and onto flat feet. For Cylie Williams, a foot expert at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, that moment gave her the idea for a new study.”

4. D。文章最后一段提到“According to Williams, women should feel free to pick the shoes that fit each moment in life”,研究人员建议,女性应该像芭比一样,根据生活中的每个时刻自由选择合适的鞋子。
Day 3 1-4 CAAD
1. C。根据第一段“With their unique design, these tiles will help deal with rising sea levels and bring back nature along the coastline”可知,该项目一个主要目标是恢复沿海生态平衡,改善海岸生态环境。
2. A。第二段指出,“Their flat surfaces take away the habitat areas that marine organisms depend on”,可知传统海堤的平坦表面破坏了海洋生物所依赖的栖息地,所以缺乏为海洋生物提供生存空间的结构。
3. A。根据第四段内容,“the energy is reflected right back into the water ... make erosion worse at the base of the wall”可推断,amplify指的是“增强”波浪能,从而导致更严重的侵蚀等问题。
4. D。根据第五段“This results in surfaces that spread out wave energy by copying the natural way it fades on untouched shorelines.”
Day 4 1-4 DDBC
1. D。文章第二段中提到“He saw them as proof that humans could behave rationally for everyone’s benefit.”,作者的父亲非常喜欢四向停车,并且他认为四向停车是人类能够理性地为每个人的利益而行动的证明。
3. B。作者在倒数第四段提到“I think civil society is more like chemistry: everywhere, but also local. At any one place, it’s weak. But behind the wheel, I’m not powerless. I can uphold the bond here at the four-way stop.”,文明社会更像是化学:无处不在,但也是地方性的。
4. C。文章中倒数第三段提到“Dad’s lesson was that everyone succeeds when we all move forward”,父亲教育我,当所有人都向前迈进时,每个人都能成功。
