Dear Director,

I was deeply concerned to learn that the Van Gogh Museum may face closure due to financial difficulties. The museum is not only a treasure of the Netherlands but also a source of inspiration for visitors around the world, myself included.

To help ease the situation, I would suggest two possible approaches. First, the museum could organize online exhibitions and virtual tours, allowing art lovers to donate while enjoying the works remotely. Second, cooperation with schools and universities to host educational programs might both attract sponsorship and strengthen public support.

I sincerely hope these efforts, along with others, will enable the museum to overcome its current challenge.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Day 4

Day 5 1-5 EGABF

Day 1 1-4 CADD

1. C。根据原文第二段 “the movement calls for abandoning the Mercator map, as it makes Africa look nearly one-fourteenth of its true size. Meanwhile, the map stretches northern regions: The UK looks almost three times larger than reality, and North America four times bigger” 可知,墨卡托地图的主要问题是严重误导了大陆和国家的实际大小,使非洲看起来远小于真实尺寸,同时夸大了北方地区的面积。

2. A。根据原文第四段 “‘The issue is not that the Mercator map is problematic. It is more that the Mercator map is misused for purposes for which it was not intended,’ Shiv Balram... told CBC” 以及第三段 “Gerardus Mercator designed the map to help sailors find their way... shapes and directions are kept accurate” 可知,专家为墨卡托地图辩护是因为它本身并非有问题,而是被误用了 —— 它原本是为帮助水手导航设计的,在形状和方向上保持了准确性,符合其原始功能。

3. D。根据原文第六段 “During the colonization of Africa, mapmakers helped European empires expand their control by creating maps that highlighted resources and trade routes.

4. D。根据原文第五段 “‘When children open their textbooks and see Africa portrayed as smaller than Europe, they internalize a message of marginality... Correcting the map is about restoring the truth and dignity in how Africa is seen and how Africans see themselves,’ Ndiaye added” 以及第七段可知,修正地图运动的最终目标是改变非洲在地图上被歪曲的呈现方式,实现对它的公平、真实展现。

Day 2 1-4 DCDA

1. D。根据原文第二段 “It may have to close if the Dutch government does not provide more money for a much-needed renovation to protect its collection and keep visitors safe” 可知,梵高博物馆目前面临的主要困难是缺乏修缮所需的资金 —— 若荷兰政府不提供更多资金用于急需的修缮工程,博物馆可能不得不关闭。

2. C。根据原文第四段 “Many museums, especially national or major civic institutions, receive a significant part of their funding from different levels of government. For example, in the US, federal agencies such as... provide grants for specific projects...”

3. D。根据原文最后一段 “Andras Szanto... told ARTNews, ‘they would be astonished.

Day 4 1-4 BADB

1. B。根据原文第二段 “My dad built it with great care” 以及第三段 “a giant freezer usually filled with a side of beef... homemade vegetable bins for root vegetables for the long winter” 可知,冷藏室是父亲精心建造的,里面储存着大量肉类和过冬蔬菜,主要象征着父亲对家庭生活的细心准备。

2. A。根据原文第六段 “this whole ‘food’ obsession was because my dad had known childhood hunger. He’d been raised in utter poverty... My dad was determined that his own family would never face the hunger he had” 可知,父亲对食物的极度关注,源于他童年经历的饥饿与贫困带来的食物不安全感,他不想让自己的家人重蹈覆辙。

3. D。根据原文最后一段 “Reflecting on this, I see the apple hasn’t fallen far from the family tree. In fact, it has probably sprouted a few roots” 以及前文提到自己如今八月也会在冰箱里塞满新鲜食材可知,作者意识到自己延续了父亲重视储备食物的习惯,体现出父母的影响会延续到成年。

Day 5 1-5 EGABF

1. E。根据前文 “In experiments, people are shown disturbing images or words... Hearts race, palms sweat and stress hormones rise – even though the subjects are safe in a lab chair” 可知,前文描述了人们看到负面信息时身体产生的强烈反应。

2. G。根据前文 “One study looked at reactions to news about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing” 可知,此处围绕该研究的结果展开。

4. B。根据后文 “If you’re flooded with negativity, your brain begins to expect more of it, gradually changing how you see the world” 可知,后文讲的是负面信息对 看待世界的方式的长期影响。

5. F。根据前文 “So what can you do? Take in news in smaller amounts” 可知,此处为应对负面新闻的具体建议。
