M: Want to travel as cheaply as possible and still get to see all the sights?
Backpacking is the best way to do this. The most popular traveling choice among young westerners, backpacking allows you to go where you please. But backpackers need to be careful. Though it may seem like a cheap and easy way to travel, there are challenges, too.
Backpackers usually aren’t rich. They have to carry their homes on their backs, like a snail.
And because they lack funds, they stay in cheap hotels called youth hostels, or in rooms at schools and universities. Some even sleep in railway stations, in tents, or under bridges.
Young people in Europe often get around by train. Now, with plane tickets dropping in price, more people are traveling to countries far from their homes, like China. It may be very exciting for them, but it’s also a big deal to be in a place with a very different culture, especially when they don’t speak the language.
It’s all about planning. The more experience a backpacker has, the more he or she knows that thinking ahead is the way to avoid problems, and make the most of a big adventure!
