W: ARE you worried about exams? Do you feel stressed by so many quizzes? In the near future, you may be able to take a pill and forget your worries.
US scientists say they have the technology to remove painful memories. It works on a protein that is important for memory formation. With the technology, scientists can remove certain memories from mice, without hurting their brains.
“The technology can help people to remove fears and unhappy memories,” said lead researcher Dr Joe Tsien. “It could help many people live better lives.”
However, the tests were only done on mice. Human brains are far more complicated. Scientists say it could be years before they use the technology on humans.

M: CUSHING Academy is a high school in Massachusetts, US. The school used to have 20,000 books in its library. But over the summer it got rid of most of the books.
Why?
“We wanted to put our focus on 21st-century learning,” said Tom Corbett, who is in charge of the library.
The school is going to replace printed books with electronic books, or e-books.
Corbett said that in the past few years, students at the school stopped using library books to do their homework. Most did their research on the Internet. An online library seemed to meet students’ needs better.
Teachers and students are also testing out e-readers, or electronic reading devices.
Most e-readers are thin and weigh less than 500g. They can download an e-book in 60 seconds. Don’t understand the meaning of a word? Click on it to get the meaning. Is the print too small? An e-reader can adjust the size.
Meghan Chenausky, 16, didn’t like the e-reader at first. But soon she began to love it. “It’s so convenient. You can have so many books right at your fingertips!” she said.
