听力原文:
Dialogue 1M: I have a new iPod. Would you like to see it? I have all my music on it!
W: That’s so cool! Can it do anything else?
M: Yes, I can connect to the Internet with it. I take it with me everywhere!
Dialogue 2W: The gas we use in our cars is bad for the planet. That’s why I’ve bought an electric car.
M: I’d love to see it. Are there any problems using the car?
W: A few. One is there are few electric charging stations. I have to plan my travel very carefully.
Dialogue 3W: This electronic dictionary I bought makes studying Chinese much easier.
M: Cool. That must help you a lot.
W: Yes, and it’s taken a weight off my shoulders. No more carrying around a heavy book!
Dialogue 4W: Do you know much about the Internet?
M: Not a great deal.
W: I’ve just been reading an article about it. It is used for all sorts of things now.
M: I know the Internet is widely used in accounting systems and in news.
W: Yes, but it’s used for other things too. Do you remember when we went to buy our tickets for our honeymoon flight to Germany?
M: Yes.
W: The agent asked where we wanted to go, then she typed in our information and waited for a reply. A few moments later she gave us our tickets.
M: Of course. Her machine must have been connected to the Internet.
W: That’s right.
Dialogue 5M: We have wireless Internet at home now and my family just loves it. No need for sockets all over the house.
W: I was thinking of getting it as well. You recommend it?
M: I do. My daughter Jennie can take her laptop from her bedroom to the kitchen to the living room. No troubles with wires any more!
W: That’s great. I often need to work online and do household tasks at the same time. Wireless Internet would be great for me.
M: I’d say get it. There is a problem though.
W: What’s that?
M: Jenny is never offline now. She even takes her laptop to the dinner table and sends instant messages while we’re eating lunch!
W: If I get it, I shan’t let Claudius do that! Meals are family time!
Man: I shall put my foot down with Jenny. The Internet isn’t the whole of life!
MonologueYou might wonder if there’s some way to take the weight off your heavy school bag. The answer is an e-book reader.
E-book readers are digital machines similar to laptops, but smaller and lighter. You can read an e-book on one just like reading a real paperback. This small device can hold over 1,000 books, and you can easily carry it anywhere. At present, e-book readers don’t carry e-textbooks. But you can use them to read novels and magazines. The most successful e-book reader right now is the Kindle, made by the US book-selling website Amazon.
The Nook is a new E-book reader developed by Barnes & Noble. Different from other e-book readers, the Nook allows you to lend your e-book to a friend for up to two weeks. The Nook also comes with a wireless Internet connection. Nook users in the United States can go to Barnes & Noble stores and use their e-book readers to browse through thousands of e-books and magazines for free.
