解析
Day 1
The College Board, which creates the SAT each year可排除A。

Day 3
1.根据第二段的…strengthen new plastics, making them not only stronger可知B正确。
根据第五段中…rather than wood may be the most promising source for nanocellulose可判断D正确。

Day 4
1. D。 根据文章第一段最后一句 “One rumor we heard was that the Texas City Monsanto Chemical plant had blown up…”, 可知答案D正确。
2. B。 根据文章第一段第四句“Pale-faced, our young science teacher quickly organized us for a fire drill.”
3. B。根据文章倒数第二段最后一句话“When Papa put his strong arms around me, I forgot for a moment that Cherokees aren't supposed to cry.” 其中,B项中narrow escape意为“死里逃生”, D项中break the news to sb 意为“把(坏)消息告诉某人……”。

W: I need to buy disks, at least two disk holders, note cards, that kind of stuff.
M: For office supplies, I suggest Office Max.Or Comp USA. One good thing about living in a campus town, though, is that you can get all of that stuff in bookstores. No doubt they do overcharge. I try to get around that by shopping around.
W: Shopping around?
M: Yes. That simply means you go to different stores, check out the prices of items you need and purchase them from the stores with the lowest prices.
W: I see. Sounds very practical.Where is Office Max located?
M: There's one in the mall, so we can stop by there this afternoon.
W: Great! Thanks.
M:Hey, Masa. Just so you know, you can always run to the discount stores whenever you're out of something you need right away. There are several around campus. They don't usually carry milk, though,so you might want to walk down to White Hen, Walgreens, or some other convenience store close by.
W: Good advice!

W: Ottawa is your most agricultural province, isn’t it?
M: Yes, it is. This is where the wheat comes from.
W: Ottawa is famous for its wheat.
M: It’s one of the largest wheat-producing areas anyhow.
W: Does that mean most people in Ottawa are involved in farm work?
M: That’s right. About 50% of the population live in rural areas.
W: Does all the wheat in Canada come from Ottawa?
M: 65% of it anyway.
W: I’d really like to learn more about all this. I’d better make a field tour.
M: OK! Let’s go. Follow me, please!

Text 10
Some students asked me about how to give a public speech. Here are a few suggestions.
First of all, you should prepare the speech well. In this way you will know clearly what you are going to say, and you won’t feel too nervous when you are standing in front of so many people.
When you are preparing your talk, you should ask yourself the following questions. The first one is “What do you want to tell your audience?” Do you want to explain why they should give up smoking or do you want to encourage them to study English? You must be very clear about why you are making the speech. The second question is “Who will be your audience?” If you are talking to children then your talk should be simple; if you are speaking to older people, then your talk has to be more advanced. The third thing you must know is how long your talk will last. You don’t want your talk to be too long or too short.
Don’t be afraid of giving a speech. If you speak clearly, honestly and in a friendly way, you will make a good impression.
