At the end of March, the Syrian government army, backed by Russian airstrikes, was able to recapture the ancient city of Palmyra from the terrorist group ISIS, who took the city last May. ISIS’s capture of the city shocked the world due to the unwarranted cruelty of ISIS *militants. They publicly beheaded 81-year-old Khaled al-Asaad, an *archaeologist who had looked after Palmyra’s ruins for 40 years. He refused to tell the militants where some of Palmyra’s treasures had been hidden, to save them from destruction.
