It’s no surprise when a celebrity (名人) tries their hand at writing. But it’s definitely big news when their work is included in school textbooks. On April 13, a Sina Weibo user published a photo of a junior high school textbook. It contained a letter that Chinese actor Li Yifeng wrote to director Feng Xiaogang when the movie Mr Six (《老炮儿》, 2015) was in cinemas. It has appeared in textbooks as a model essay, as Li, who played Feng’s son in the movie, expressed his concerns (关心) and love to his “father” in the letter. But it has raised quite a few eyebrows as well. Some people believe the letter is an advertisement (广告) for the movie that shouldn’t be included in the textbook.
