“The Panda” Xiong Jingnan has roared. On Sept 3, the Chinese fighter defended (卫冕) her fifth ONE Championship strawweight title in Singapore by beating Michelle Nicolini from Brazil. This made Xiong the most awarded female boxer in ONE history. Nevertheless, she experienced a great amount of hardship in the bout. To prepare for the battle, Xiong had gone through 308 day-and-night trainings. “It’s a very hard time in Singapore because of the pandemic. The only place I can train is my coach’s apartment – I can’t go to the gym. Besides his apartment, we’ve got a little yoga class, so we just do our ground game training there,” she told South China Morning Post. But it paid off. By claiming this victory, the 33-year-old has shown her undisputed dominance in the event.
