Look! It’s a Peking Opera performer, but it’s made out of fruit. This is just one part of the 89th Menton Lemon Festival celebration. First held in Menton, France in 1934, the festival is held every year to celebrate the coming of spring. It is spread over a couple of weeks in February. During the festival, visitors can see many floats and impressive structures decorated with lemons and oranges designed by about 200 artists over the course of several weeks. But all of these works portray (描绘) a unified theme. This year’s theme of “Rock and Opera” is one such example. Some of the displays can reach 10 meters or higher. According to the website Carnival Land, about 140 tons of fruits are used every year.
