Ding Liren, 30, a chess grandmaster from China, took home the World Chess Championship title on the last day of April in the 2023 World Chess Championship. He defeated Russian chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi in a four-game rapid playoff, becoming the 17th men’s world champion in chess history. This is the first time a Chinese male chess player has reached the pinnacle of chess. After the championship, Ding then went on to take part in The Romanian Superbet competition, the first stop of The 2023 Chess Super Tour.
