During the first quarter of this year, China shut down more than 4,200 websites. More than 2,000 websites were asked to improve their services, and 48 websites were banned (禁止) from offering or upgrading (更新) services. Also, the regulators banned nearly 70 apps as they might provide illegal services. Specifically, 55 mobile apps were removed from app stores and 12 were shut down. Some platforms, including Baidu, Sina Weibo and Douyin, were punished for failing to manage the harmful information posted by users.
