The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released their Emissions Gap Report 2023 on Nov 20. The report finds that there has been progress since the Paris Agreement was signed in 2015. However, the report warns that greenhouse gas emissions need to be cut by 43 percent by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. This is critical to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 C by the end of this century and avoid the worst impacts of climate change, including more frequent and severe droughts, heatwaves and rainfall.
