In 2004, China hosted its first-ever Formula 1 (F1) Chinese Grand Prix (GP). Watching in the grandstand at the age of 5, Zhou Guanyu dreamed of becoming a race car driver. Almost 20 years later, his dream has come true! He made his inaugural home appearance as China’s first F1 race driver at the 2024 Chinese GP, which was held at the Shanghai International Circuit from April 19 to 21. The 24-year-old made his F1 debut in 2022 after joining the team Alfa Romeo. As the first-ever local driver to race in the Chinese GP, Zhou finished 14th among 20 drivers. “What I’ve wanted most is to compete in the F1 at home. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” he told China Daily.
