The National Institute of Educational Technologies and Teacher Training of Spain recently published a handbook titled AI for Teachers, an Open Textbook. This handbook explores the rapidly evolving field of generative AI and its significant impact on education. It argues that AI doesn’t replace educators; instead, it enhances their roles by offering new opportunities and addressing potential challenges. The handbook highlights current AI applications in education, including learning management tools and adaptive systems, and discusses its potential to personalize teaching and promote inclusion. While showcasing the promises of AI, the handbook also addresses concerns such as the need for critical evaluation by teachers. It emphasizes the importance of teachers’ digital literacy in effectively using generative AI and advocates for critical evaluation to ensure meaningful improvements in teaching quality.
