On Sept 27, British actress Maggie Smith died peacefully at the age of 89 surrounded by family and friends. Starting onstage in 1952, Smith’s performances always stole the show. During her seven-decade career, she became one of a select few to win the Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards. For many younger fans, Smith was best known as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies and the Dowager Countess in the TV series Downton Abbey. Britain’s King Charles III described her as “a national treasure” and paid his tributes (敬意).
