A whale of a find: On July 5, two scientists walked along the body of a spade-toothed whale (铲齿喙鲸) on a beach in New Zealand. Spade-toothed whales are the rarest whales in the world, with only six ever having been seen before this one. On Dec 2, scientists began dissecting (解剖) the whale. This marked the first time scientists were able to study a complete body of its kind using technologies like 3D printing and CT scans (扫描). The week-long study was carried out together with the Maori (毛利人), New Zealand’s native people. They shared their traditional knowledge and customs with the scientists.
