During the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), King Zhao of the State of Yan (燕昭王) wanted to get talented people to work for him. When he asked a scholar (有学问的人) named Guo Wei for advice, Guo told him the story of buying horse bones (骨头) with 500 pieces of gold.
