China is set to make 160 elder-friendly trains by 2027. It’s part of the country’s “silver economy” strategy (银发经济战略). Xinhua said that by the end of 2024, there were more than 310 million people aged 60 and older in China. To meet their needs, these air-conditioned trains have bigger seats, handrails (扶手) and emergency buttons (紧急按钮). They also offer special meals, medical (医疗的) help, and fun activities like music, reading and chess. This plan aims to encourage more people to travel and make lesser-known tourist places famous. Also, by matching the free time of older travelers, trains can be used better during less busy times.
