Thieves on the loose: French police officers stand in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris after a theft on Oct 19, in which nine jewels of great historical value were stolen from the museum. According to French authorities, around 9:30 am local time, four thieves broke into the museum’s Apollo Gallery – home to the French Crown Jewels and other valuable items – by breaking the gallery’s windows from the outside. They grabbed the jewels in just a few minutes. No injuries were reported, and the museum was closed to the public. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned (谴责) the theft on X, calling it “an attack on a heritage that we cherish because it is our history”. He vowed that the stolen jewels would be recovered and that the thieves would be caught and brought to justice.
