THE Inaugural International Conference on the Teaching and Learning of English in Asia will be held November 14 to 16 in Penang, Malaysia. It is organized by the Faculty of Communication and Modern Languages, Universiti Utara Malaysia. And the venue is the City Bayview hotel.
The theme of the conference is "the teaching and learning of English in Asia: towards an Asian perspective." It will greatly help to establish collaboration in research on the teaching and learning of English, and hence create a global network of scholars and managers of English language education in Asia. The closing date of conference registration is September 30.
The conference invites submissions of plenary, papers, workshops and posters. A broad array of issues will be discussed: research in language theory and practice; methodology and approaches in the teaching of English; English language curriculum and materials development; English language assessment; Asian literature in English language curriculum; distance learning/e-learning; language teacher education, globalization and language education; internationalization of curricular and pedagogy; multiculturalism; collaboration in teaching and learning; quality assurance and standards in language education, etc.
The conference will provide a forum for scholars and educators to exchange views and experiences, formulate strategies, forge academic fraternities, and, all in all, contribute positively towards the development of an Asian perspective.
