ETS announces new test improvements

  ETS (Educational Testing Service) announced its plans to launch the official TOEIC test with the new speaking and writing components first in Japan and Korea in the fourth quarter of 2006. Other improvements include enhanced score reports that will provide performance feedback within a test section and strengths and weaknesses in specific skill areas. According to ETS, hundreds of Korean, Japanese and French test takers participated in a pilot test of TOEIC last month.

  
Access classic plots via text messages

  DOT Mobile, a British cell-phone service for students, has devised a programme serving as a learning tool for students of English literature. The company will offer subscribers summaries of classic works of literature in text-message format. The cell plan will send text messages of the major quotations and plot summaries from at least seven literary classics including William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice".
