COUNT Henri de Baillet-Latour was president of the International Olympic Committee(国际奥委会)from 1925 to 1942. Latour was born on March 1, 1876, in Belgium(比利时). He was chosen as a member of the International Olympic Committee in Belgium in 1903. One year later he founded the Belgian Olympic Committee.
After World War I, Latour helped Antwerp(安特卫普)organize the Games of the VII Olympiad. At that time, Belgium had suffered badly from the war and had only one year to prepare for these Games. However, Latour made himself responsible(负有责任的) for the Games. The talent he showed at the time of the Games in Antwerp made him president of the IOC when Pierre de Coubertin(顾拜旦)gave up the position in 1925. During his 17-year-long office term(任期), Latour tried his best to achieve the Olympic ideals and aims. He aimed to keep high standards and beauty of sports and kept sports free from politics(政治)and commercialism(商业). He was a strong person, and got along with people as well. Because of these characteristics, he will be remembered for his great work and achievements.
