THE International Olympic Committee (IOC, 国际奥委会) is based in Lausanne(洛桑), Switzerland(瑞士). Pierre de Coubertin(顾拜旦) founded it on June 23, 1894 to revive(复兴) the Ancient Olympic Games. The IOC has a maximum of 115 members. The Executive Board(执行委员会) of the IOC consists of the president, four vice-presidents and 10 other members.
The IOC is a non-governmental(非政府的) non-profit(非盈利的) organization and the creator of the Olympic Movement. It has all rights to the Olympic symbols, flag, motto(座右铭), anthem(颂歌) and Games. Its primary responsibility(职责) is to direct the organization of the Olympic Games.
The IOC’s task is to promote (促进) top-level sport and sport for all according to the Olympic Charter(奥林匹克宪章). It ensures (保证)the regular celebration of the Games, sports ethics(道德规范) and the protection of athletes. It also encourages the promotion of women in sports.
