THE Malaysian Ministry of Education is considering revamping the school curriculum and introducing English Literature to enhance English proficiency among teachers and students, especially primary school children. A decision on whether Science and Mathematics will continue to be taught in English will be made after the Primary School Assessment results are released at the end of this year.

THE Philippine Department of Tourism recently disclosed that over 100,000 South Koreans flew to the country in 2007 to study English as a second language (ESL). ESL programs from schools based in Manila are currently the most popular. The Philippine Ambassador to Seoul Luis T. Cruz said the high number of South Koreans studying in the Philippines makes Seoul the “No 1 source of foreign students” in Manila.
