ENGLISH classes in South Korean elementary schools will increase by one to two hours per week from 2010. According to the South Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, parents support the expansion of English learning. The expansion will be especially helpful to students in rural areas. The ministry will finalize the plan in December.
Malaysia to introduce new English ‘concept’

THE Malaysian Ministry of Education is planning to introduce the “first step concept” to some 1,000 schools in the country during the 2009 academic year. The teaching method places great emphasis on English listening, speaking, reading and writing. The concept emulates a successful Australian learning module. Students will learn English in a fast and efficient manner.
