THE Malaysian Parents Action Group for Education recently sent an appeal to the Malaysian Prime Minister and Minister of Education, calling on the teaching of Science and Mathematics to be continued in English. Many of the parents in the group say they don’t want their children to relive their struggles when they switch to Mathematics or Science in English at the tertiary level.
Vietnam not ready for English program

THE Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training plans to begin teaching English as a compulsory subject in primary schools from 2010. However, nothing has been done so far to prepare for the program. Since English teachers are seriously lacking and textbooks have not been compiled, the program will only be applied to 20 percent of primary schools in Vietnam in the trial period in early 2010.
