UK job hunters urged to learn languages

欧盟语言专家诟病英国学生外语水平

BRITISH students are missing out on jobs at home and abroad because of their inability to speak languages other than English, the European Union commissioner for multilingualism, Leonard Orban, has warned. A league table of language ability across Europe will be finalized by 2010 and experts believe that the UK will most likely be placed close to the bottom.

韩国推出学生赴美学习英语项目

SOUTH Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan recently signed a memorandum of understanding on the Work, English, Study, Travel (WEST) program with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington. The program will allow up to 5,000 South Korean students every year to study English and get a paid internship in the US for 18 months. The program will begin next year.
