THE Work, English, Study, Travel (WEST) program for South Koreans in the US has hit a snag before it has got underway. WEST is a program allowing up to 5,000 South Korean college students a year to study English in the US and get a paid internship there for 18 months. But due to lack of sufficient preparations and economic difficulties, the South Korean government has decided to reduce the number to 200-300 to implement it as a “pilot”.

TWO required survey courses of British literature will cease to be taught to English majors at Harvard University within two years. The demise of the courses is the most pronounced feature of a proposed overhaul of the undergraduate English program, the first in more than two decades. The purpose is to allow students more leeway to design their own curriculum.
