THESE may be hard times for the global art market, but some Chinese artists see a silver lining. The Financial Times reported last week that art sales dropped 35 percent during the first quarter. In 2008, art sales dropped 4.8 percent. This doesn’t exactly have established Chinese artists like Yue Minjun *grinning from ear to ear, like the characters in many of Yue’s paintings, but neither are they very worried.
